Event FAQs

Here are some common questions we hear about events and things we find helpful to support your experience. Keep in mind these are GENERAL responses, each event will have it's own vibe, intention and group.

Breathwork + Sound Ceremony

1. What to expect:

We use a conscious, connected and circular breath pattern. This is slightly activating in order to activate a non-ordinary state of meditation. The lights are low [usually candle light only] and the music is turned up to support staying in your own space. When you enter into the space we give guidelines about where the music will be louder/softer so that you can select a space that works best for you. This event is done on yoga mats on the floor, although we encourage participants to follow their body for desired movement during breathwork. Portions can be done in a chair if preferred.

2. Flow of event:

~ Generally we start with settling in, talking about the breath, giving tips and instructions for the event.

~ We then use gentle movement or bioenergetics to begin to feel  and connect to the body. These movements can be modified for a variety of abilities.

~ We then move directly into the breathwork portion. We give suggestions, support and encouragement throughout the event but encourage participants to let the body + breath lead the experience.

~ After breathwork we settle into rest with gentle sound [we use different instruments each time]. We generally end by sharing a few songs and welcoming gentle movement to the body.

~ We wrap up with short sharing, questions and discussion of integration.

***keep in mind each ceremony is different and the flow will adjust to the needs of the group

2. What to bring:

Yoga mat, blanket (2 for colder months), pillow or yoga bolster, water bottle. You will make a nest on the floor for your experience so bring what you need to be comfortable. I prefer to have a blanket under me for a little extra cushioning and softness. Some people prefer an eye mask. Chap stick is helpful (breathwork makes your lips dry). A journal if you would like to write down pieces of your experience. Any items of comfort. Please try to keep your space to the size of a large yoga mat. We generally have extras to help make you comfortable.

3. What does support look like during Breathwork?

This can be different for each person and ceremony. Sometimes we will just sit and breathe with you, reminding you to return to the breath. We use gentle touch, resistance and hands on support with permission. This may look like holding your hand, a hand placed on your back, grounding your feet, providing resistance against hands, legs, arms, shoulders, etc. You are in the driver's seat, you get to decide what if any supportive tough you would like.

4. What might I experience?

This is varied by person and ceremony. The intentional breath pattern brings activation to your system. This can bring up emotion - both happy and sad. You may have a desire to move in a certain way, to hit, move your legs, push, pull, be in a certain body position. You may have a desire to make sounds - laughing, crying, humming, groaning, etc.

Tremoring is common with breathwork- this is a shaking sensation that could be in a part of the body or many parts. It could feel very small and feel like it is inside or larger and visible externally. This is a natural process of the body to discharge. If it feels overwhelming you can slow your breath, breathe through your nose and we are present for support too!

You are in charge of the level of intensity of your experience! You can speed up the breathe to build intensity or slow it down to allow for a more integrative experience. Gentle can be powerful too!

5. Why do you use sound at the end?

We use sound to support the body and nervous system in finding regulation and shifting into a state of rest. This time allows your body to take in and begin to integrate the work done during breathwork.

6. Contraindications for Circular Breathwork:

While breathwork in profound for most people there are some situations where this circular breath pattern should not be used. If you are currently pregnant, have severe/uncontrolled asthma, severe heart disease, untreated/uncontrolled high blood pressure, history of psychotic breaks, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, epilepsy/history of seizures, severe/unregulated diabetes. If you are unsure if breathwork is right for you, please reach out to us to discuss your specific needs.

In some cases we can modify the breath so that it is safe for you to attend a breathwork event. If you have one of the above conditions and would like to discuss the potential options please reach out to us.

7. Who can attend?

All events are 18+ and open to all bodies, gender identity and cultural backgrounds. We worked hard to provide an inclusive environment. Occasionally we will offer an event for parents/teen or a womxn identified only event. Please check the event description for these specific events.

Moving Meditations

1. What to expect:

Moving or Active meditations use a specific breath and movement pattern to support a meditative state.  The lights are low [usually candle light only] and the music is turned up to support staying in your own space. When you enter into the space we give guidelines about where the music will be louder/softer so that you can select a space that works best for you. Each event will use a different movement/breath pattern. Generally these events are done with a combination of sitting on the floor and standing.  Active meditations can be modified to use a chair if preferred.

**Occasionally we offer these events outside as a way to incorporate nature during the warmer months

2. What to bring:

Yoga mat, blanket, pillow or yoga bolster, water bottle. You will make a nest on the floor for the rest portion of the event so bring what you need to be comfortable. A journal if you would like to write down pieces of your experience. We generally have extras supplies to help make you comfortable.

4. What might I experience:

This is varied by person and the specific meditation. These mediations are often very reflective and give opportunity to look at how you are showing up in the world, how you are taking care of yourself, etc. I generally find people experience an increased awareness of a pattern in their life or something they may be struggling with. Emotions may arise during moving meditations. You are in charge of your experience.

You are in charge of the level of intensity of your experience! You can speed up the breathe or movement to build intensity or slow it down to allow for a more integrative experience. Gentle can be powerful too!

5. Why do you use sound at the end?

We use sound to support the body and nervous system in finding regulation and shifting into a state of rest. This time allows your body to take in and begin to integrate the work done during breathwork.

6. Contraindications for Active Meditation:

There are not specific contraindications for active/moving meditations. Most are able to be modified to a variety of abilities. Please let us know if you have any of the following prior to the beginning of a moving meditation event so that we can give you any modification suggestions.

Conditions: currently pregnant, have severe/uncontrolled asthma, severe heart disease, untreated/uncontrolled high blood pressure, history of psychotic breaks, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, epilepsy/history of seizures, severe/unregulated diabetes.
